We made Botamochi, which is a seasonal treat (spring) made with sweet rice (brown rice, home-made amazake (no sugar added)) and sweet azuki (red bean) paste. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botamochi

No-agrochemicals Apples

I bought Apples (No-agrochemicals) at Union SQ Green Market today. These were all different shapes. They look super UGLY, but I really love them.

Cornus florida

In 2012, the United States sent 3,000 dogwood saplings to Japan to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Washington D.C. cherry trees given as a gift to the U.S. by Japan in 1912.

Big difference in temperature between this and last week...
A week ago, temperature was 72 °F, it was almost summer.
Yesterday, we got the first of the spring gales.
This morning, temperature was 30 °F.... OMG....

Stay warm everybody, and enjoy cherry blossom season!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

It's a Vegan Osechi.
Osechi-ryōri are traditional Japanese New Year foods. The tradition started in the Heian Period (794-1185). Osechi are easily recognizable by their special boxes called jūbako, which resemble bentō boxes. Like bentō boxes, jūbako are often kept stacked before and after use.

cranberry vegan supe

I made cranberry vegan soup for lunch. It was pretty good, easy, tasty & happy! It is a beautiful sunny day today! Have a great day.
